BELURAN: Deputy Parliament Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee has urged parents in the rural areas to do more for their children’s education and not to leave this responsibility to teachers alone.
“Education is the only way for them to change and improve their lives,” he said when opening a motivation programme for the pupils of Sk Telupid 4 UPSR near here this week.
Ronald who is also the Beluran MP said he was aware that some parents in the rural areas were uneducated themselves but that should not be an excuse not to pay attention to their kids’ education.
“They can at least motivate their kids and provide them with proper environment in their homes,” he added.
Ronald also said the lack of facilities and qualified teachers for subjects like English, Mathematic and Science was also not an excuse for students not to excel in their studies.
“I know of students in the rural areas who do excel in their studies. They had worked extra as compared to their urban counterpart,” he said matter-of-factly.
Meanwhile, he also said a close rapport between students, parents and teachers was also vital for students to excel in their studies.
