RM310.5m allocation for rural schools facilities

30th July, 2009

BENTONG: The government has allocated RM310.5 million to provide facilities for rural and remote schools throughout the country this year.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi said the facilities included water and electricity supply, new school buildings and computer rooms.

“We give priority to such schools as many of them, especially in the remote and interior parts of Sabah and Sarawak, still lack facilities, including water and electricity supply,” he said after launching the e-Learning Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sulaiman, here, yesterday.

He said the provision of facilities for the rural and remote schools was to enable the students to learn in comfort and not to lag behind in educational development.

He added that due to the location of these schools, the projects could not be implemented within a short time but in stages.
