Works Ministry identifying proper technology for road construction

2nd August, 2009

RANAU: The works ministry will identify a suitable technology for road construction near slope areas in Sabah, said Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.

He said the ministry would recommend a suitable technology to be carried out in the Tenth Malaysia Plan (RMK-10).

“The main problem in Sabah is that most of the roads are close to slopes where landslides always occur, and the cost of repairs are high. Maybe, we should recommend that a tunnel be constructed.

“We also want to ensure that federal roads are safe for use, and minimise the maintenance cost as compared to the previous cost,” he told reporters after opening the Ranau Umno division delegates meeting yesterday.

He said his ministry was concerned with the problem in Sabah and Sarawak, especially in rural areas.

Earlier, Shaziman urged Umno branch leaders to be leaders in society in their respective areas, apart from leading the party.

“Voters are not limited to Umno members only, but comprised the entire community. We need to maintain our victory in the last election and make sure we will win comfortably in the future,” he said.
